History

JJ Shepherd (Est. 1946) Ltd was formed in 1946 by Jack Shepherd and based in Oughtibridge, Sheffield.

The Company was originally a full load steel haulier during the 50's, 60's and 70's but as local steel production tonnage fell during the 80's the Company moved towards a business model offering a groupage service aimed predominantly at local steel stockholders, forging companies and engineers.

When Jack Shepherd retired his son Ray assumed the role of Managing Director and in 1992 the management team comprising of Ian Wood, Trevor Hirst and Paul Tilley took a controlling stake.

In 1993 the Company moved to its current site on Birley Vale Avenue, Sheffield.

In 1995 the Company joined the Palletline network. This enabled the Company to offer a broader based groupage service to sectors previously untapped particularly the fast moving consumer goods ("FMCG") market.

Since the turn of the century the Company has gone from strength to strength and increased its customer base due to its unrivalled service provision.

August 2010 new co-owners Laurence Abel and Ian Davis acquire the company and the next phase in the history of the company begins.
